Douglas Lawyers is delighted to announce the addition of Liam Collins to its Cambridge team, bringing a fresh and focused approach to employment law.
Principal Jo Douglas said she is looking forward to the contributions Liam will make to the practice and the wider legal community.
“His fresh perspective will undoubtedly bring new insights and pragmatic solutions to our clients.” said Douglas.
“I am thrilled to join such a reputable firm and am looking forward to specialising in employment law”, said Liam Collins. “The mentorship and support from Jo will be invaluable as I navigate this new chapter in my career.”
Initially, law was not Liam’s chosen path during his school years, as he was on the verge of studying history at university. However, his English teacher, who had previously practised law, recognised Liam’s potential and encouraged him to pursue a legal career, believing he had the makings of an exceptional lawyer. Following this advice, Liam enrolled at the University of Waikato, where he completed both his Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws degrees.
In September 2023, he transitioned to the Department of Conservation (DOC), focusing on prosecution and law enforcement.
“My time at DOC provided me with a wide range of experience and a solid foundation in public and administrative law. I am eager to leverage this knowledge in my new role at Douglas Lawyers,” said Collins.
Liam's decision to join Douglas Lawyers in Cambridge marks a new chapter in his career, where he aims to specialise in employment law. Under the guidance of Jo Douglas, Liam’s primary focus will be providing advice and representation to both employers and employees on employment-related matters.
“Employment law is a dynamic and evolving field, especially with the recent and proposed changes under the current National-led coalition government” he added. “I am committed to staying ahead of these developments and providing our clients with the best possible guidance and representation.”
Looking ahead, Liam will be looking to expand the practice in employment law, developing related regulatory areas including health and safety advice and representation, and client-centred advocacy and negotiation at MBIE’s mediation service and in the Employment Relations Authority, and Employment Court, and other Courts and Tribunals.
